My Rumble Strip Mitts pattern, which was published in Yarn Forward magazine, Issue 31, December 2010, is now (26 May 2012) available to purchase as a pdf download. Use the buy now button above, or click here for more information.
The pattern is for a pair of fingerless mitts with both colour and textural interest. The mitts have a gusseted thumb and are worked in the round from cuff to fingers.
M: To fit 18 cm (7 inch) hand circumference
L: To fit 21 cm (8 inch) hand circumference
TENSION / GAUGE
28 sts and 44 rows to 10 × 10 cm (4 × 4 in) in stocking stitch (stockinette stitch)
Jamieson and Smith 2 ply Jumper Weight, 100% Wool, 115 m / 125 yds, 25 g ball. MC Shade 123, 2 balls. CC Shade FC22, 1 ball
Other 4-ply/fingering weight yarns should also work well, especially those with more than 50% wool content to provide elasticity. To achieve a dense fabric, a smaller size of needle is used than recommended on the ball band.
Set of 2.5 mm (US 1.5) double pointed needles (or 80 cm/32 in long circular needle for magic loop); or size needed to obtain correct tension / gauge
5 stitch markers
Smooth waste yarn
The cable pattern is given in a chart and as written directions.
