Loðband Einband: a pictorial comparison

Loðband Einband yarn compared with sock weight yarns

I mentioned in my last post that the Icelandic Laceweight yarn, Loðband Einband, is thicker than you might think from its name. The picture above shows the yarn compared with a few sock-weight yarns. They are all very similar. One "laceweight" property it does have is flexibility in needle size that can be used, from 2.5 mm to 6 mm, depending on the openness of the desired fabric.

Loðband Einband is 100% wool and has some characteristics that it is well worth being aware of. Firstly it feels quite rough and scratchy, but it softens considerably after washing. Washing also makes it stretch, so it is vital to wash any swatches when checking tension.

I have plenty left over after making my mitts and am looking forward to a few experiments.
