Swirl Set

Swirl Set, in Libby Summers Chunky
Pattern by Helena Callum, published in Knit Now magazine, April 2014

My latest pattern, for a necklace and bracelet, is to be published in Issue 33 (April 2014) of Knit Now magazine. The issue will be on sale in supermarkets, newsagents and craft stores. And you can subscribe, or buy a single issue from the shop, via the publisher's website

This set was inspired firstly by a spiral clasp, sold for use with Kumihimo braid, with end caps just the right size to accommodate knitted i-cord (6 mm internal diameter). These are widely available online (search kumihimo swirl clasp). The second inspiration was the yarn. The lovely chalky, pale colours of the Libby Summers chunky yarn, are ideal for spring or summer jewellery

The bracelet and necklace are formed of plaited i-cords. They are knitted using the same method, with a difference in the overall length. The necklace would probably be worn with the clasp to the front, and is about 50 cm long (matinee length); the bracelet is 20 cm long. Both lengths are customisable by the knitter.
